In summary: Olowalu Plantation House is a private oceanfront estate on the West Maui shoreline and the most transparent venue on the island. It publishes a complete rate card by day of week and guest count, from $9,000 to $14,000, plus every rule it enforces. It is open, actively booking, and it frames each wedding as employing up to forty local residents in the post fire recovery.

The full published rate card

Guests Monday to Thursday Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays
Up to 50 $9,000 $11,000
50 to 99 $10,000 $12,000
100 to 149 $11,000 $13,000
150 to 200 $12,000 $14,000

Add $1,000 for an extra morning block from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Add Hawaii general excise tax of 4.712 percent and a refundable 10 percent security deposit. Booking takes one third of the site fee, balance due 30 days out.

There is also a Signature Wedding Experience listed as a limited time offer: $15,000 for up to 30 guests or $18,000 for up to 40, weekday evenings from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, including a hand selected planner, tables, chairs, bistro lighting, two passed hors d’oeuvres, salad, two entrees, dessert, service items, an officiant, live music and beer, wine and champagne service. Over 40 guests or a weekend date becomes a custom package.

That package is worth doing the arithmetic on. At 30 guests it is $500 a head all in, with venue, food, drink, planner, officiant and music included. Very little on Maui competes with that at that guest count.

The rules, which are unusually specific

  • A Maui based wedding planner from their approved list is required. Not recommended, required, and they must supervise the whole event on property.
  • Approved vendor list applies across coordinators, officiants, photographers, cinematography, musicians, catering, sweets, bar service, florists, transportation, rentals, DJs, entertainment and dress pressing.
  • Sound is capped at 85 decibels measured 15 feet from the speakers, speakers must face the ocean, and decibel readers are required for all DJs and musicians. Non compliant vendors are banned from the property.
  • Bands are prohibited. Soloists, duos or trios only from ceremony through dinner. After 8:00pm only approved DJs may run music.
  • Insurance of $1,000,000 naming Olowalu Elua Associates as additionally insured is mandatory or the booking is cancelled.
  • Parking is roughly 30 to 50 vehicles. Over 100 guests needs an attendant or shuttles. Over 150 needs shuttles plus one portable toilet per additional 25 guests.
  • No sparklers, sky lanterns or uncontained flame. Tiki torches and candles are fine.
  • The house has plumbing for about 20 people. A separate bathhouse serves guests.

Read the sound rules before you fall in love with the property. A hard 85 decibel cap with meters on site is a very different party from an unrestricted resort lawn.

Catering

The kitchen is not a commercial kitchen. Caterers must hold a State Health Food Establishment Certificate, follow state health law for all preparation, and clean the kitchen or be back charged. Catering comes from the approved list rather than in house, which means you can shape the food and the price in a way resorts do not allow.

No food and beverage minimum is published. The rate card is a site use fee only, which is why the total lands differently here than at a resort quoting a minimum.

Why the transparency matters

Almost no Maui venue publishes a rate card. Olowalu publishes rates, tax, deposits, cancellation terms, vendor rules, decibel limits, insurance requirements, parking counts and toilet ratios. You can build a real budget for this venue in ten minutes without speaking to anybody.

The property is also explicit about its role in the recovery from the 2023 fires, stating that each wedding employs up to forty local residents. That is the venue’s own framing and it is a reasonable thing to weigh.

What we could not confirm

We publish what the venue publishes and we say so when a number is missing. These are the gaps on this venue as of our last check, and each one is worth asking about on your first call:

  • Named individual ceremony and reception sites. The property is rented whole rather than by room.
  • Sunset direction and prevailing wind, although the rule that speakers must face the ocean tells you which way the property looks.
  • Whether the approved vendor requirement has any exception process.
  • Any food and beverage minimum. None is published.

Last verified 2026-07-31. Capacities, fees and policies change. Confirm directly with the venue before you sign anything.

Where this fits on Maui

Olowalu is the best value private estate on Maui if your guest count is 50 to 150 and you can live with a strict vendor list and an early, quiet finish. For an equivalent estate in South Maui with in house catering instead of approved caterers, see Sugar Beach Events. For the resort route on the same coast, see Kaanapali and West Maui.
