In summary: West Maui runs from Olowalu through Lahaina to the resort row at Kaanapali and up to Kapalua. It has the island’s best oceanfront restaurant venues, the most transparent private estate on Maui, and one major resort that changed operator in March 2026. Operating status matters more here than anywhere else on the island, so we verify it and publish the date we checked.

Best for
Couples who want resort convenience, whale season views across the channel to Lanai and Molokai, and reception options that are actual restaurants rather than banquet halls. Also the region to look at if you want a private estate you rent whole and a published price you can plan against.
The venues, with verified status
| Venue | Capacity | Published cost | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Olowalu Plantation House | Up to 200 | $9,000 to $14,000 by day and count | Open and booking |
| Merriman’s Kapalua | 40 lawn, 200 buyout | Nothing published | Open |
| The Resort at Kapalua Bay | Not published | Nothing published | Rebranded and renovating |
The Kapalua Bay change you need to know about
If you have been researching Montage Kapalua Bay, stop and read this. Marriott assumed management of that property on 14 March 2026. It is now The Resort at Kapalua Bay, Maui, and it is scheduled to become a St. Regis in 2027 after renovations. Every Montage wedding page for the property now redirects away, and no replacement wedding page has been published.
Directories and planner blogs are still selling the old brand with old capacities and old package details. None of it can be verified against a live source. The resort is open and bookable, but anything you read about weddings there predates the change.

Olowalu, and why transparency is worth paying attention to
Olowalu Plantation House publishes something almost no Maui venue does: a complete rate card. $9,000 to $12,000 Monday to Thursday and $11,000 to $14,000 Friday to Sunday, banded by guest count, plus tax, deposit terms, cancellation terms, vendor rules, an 85 decibel sound cap, insurance requirements, parking counts and portable toilet ratios.
You can budget that venue in ten minutes without speaking to anyone. The trade is that the rules are strict and enforced: a Maui based planner from their list is required, vendors come from an approved list, bands are prohibited, speakers must face the ocean and everything stops at 10:00pm.
Their Signature Wedding Experience is the number worth doing arithmetic on. $15,000 for up to 30 guests including venue, planner, officiant, food, drink and live music works out around $500 a head all in, which very little on Maui matches at that count.
Restaurant venues
West Maui is where the restaurant wedding actually works. Merriman’s Kapalua sits on the point above Kapalua Bay with a cliffside ceremony lawn for 40 and a full buyout for up to 200, and the food comes from its own farm to table kitchen with an in house pastry chef doing the cake. Ceremony blocks are published as 3:00pm to sunset, so the day is structured around the light.
The Steeple House at Kapalua is a restored chapel for ceremony focused weddings, and The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua handles grand resort weddings in the cooler, greener Kapalua microclimate. We have not published profiles for either yet because we have not verified their current terms.

Weather and timing
West Maui is leeward and west facing, so sunset is over the water from Olowalu through Kapalua. Kapalua sits higher and greener than Kaanapali and runs cooler and wetter. Beaches along this coast are public state land, so a ceremony on the sand rather than on a lawn or deck needs a state permit under the rules in our permit guide.
