In summary: Hotel Wailea is adults only, hillside rather than beachfront, and one of the few Maui venues where per space food and beverage minimums are actually published. It sits about 300 feet above the sea across 72 suites, and it caps out around 100 seated indoors or 150 outdoors.

The costs, which this venue actually publishes

Most Wailea properties publish nothing. Hotel Wailea’s figures are on a venue supplied listing profile, which makes it one of the few places you can build a real budget before your first call.

Item Published figure
Elopement ceremony fee, up to 10 guests $5,000
Wedding ceremony fee, 10 or more guests $9,000
Vow renewal, up to 10 guests $5,000
Sunset Lawn, food and beverage minimum $12,000
Anuhea Ballroom minimum $7,500
The Birdcage minimum $7,500
The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea minimum $35,000
The Lanai minimum $12,500
The Garden minimum $4,500 partial, $7,500 full
The Treehouse $700 per person
Bar service $18 per person

Read those minimums correctly. The ceremony fee is the fee to hold the ceremony. The food and beverage minimum is what you must spend on food and drink in that space on top of it. A Sunset Lawn wedding therefore starts at $9,000 plus $12,000 of catering before a single flower is ordered.

One thing to clarify on your call: a second listing frames $5,000 as a ceremony site fee and $9,000 as a starting price, rather than as elopement and standard tiers. The tiered reading is internally consistent, but confirm which applies to your guest count.

Spaces

The named event spaces are the Sunset Lawn, Anuhea Ballroom, The Birdcage, The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea, The Lanai, The Garden and The Treehouse. The Birdcage and The Restaurant are confirmed on the hotel’s own site as dining venues.

Per space seated capacities are not published. The only capacity figures that exist are property wide: 100 seated indoors, 150 seated outdoors, 250 standing outdoors. A full property buyout is offered with no published price.

Some wedding blogs reference an Anuhea Terrace holding up to 50. We could not corroborate that space from the hotel or from its own listing profile, so treat it as unverified until someone at the hotel confirms it.

The adults only policy, and why it changes your guest list

This is the detail couples find out too late. The property cannot accommodate guests under 16, and rooms cannot take cribs or extra beds. If your siblings have small children, they are staying somewhere else, and on a destination wedding where the venue is also the hotel, that is a real logistical cost.

The upside is the reason people choose it. No children anywhere on property, 72 suites, Relais and Chateaux standards, and a restaurant good enough that its own food and beverage minimum is the highest number on the sheet.

Practical notes

  • Catering and alcohol are in house. No outside caterers.
  • Amplified music is permitted indoors and outdoors, with no published curfew time. Get the time in writing.
  • Nightly room rates start around $1,000, which matters if you are holding a block.
  • It is not beachfront. If you want sand under your feet during the ceremony you are driving down the hill, and that means a state permit. See the permit guide.
  • Wheelchair accessible, available year round.

What we could not confirm

We publish what the venue publishes and we say so when a number is missing. These are the gaps on this venue as of our last check, and each one is worth asking about on your first call:

  • Anything published on the hotel’s own wedding page. The site blocks automated reading, so every figure above comes from venue supplied listing profiles rather than hotelwailea.com itself.
  • Per space seated capacities.
  • Whether Anuhea Terrace is a current space.
  • The outside vendor policy for florists, photographers and musicians.
  • The music curfew time.
  • The full property buyout price.

Where this fits on Maui

Hotel Wailea is the adults only, food led, hillside alternative to the big resorts below it. If you want beachfront and the same guest count, look at Sugar Beach Events in Kihei, which publishes a full rate card. If you need children on property, this is not your venue. Compare on the Wailea and South Maui page.
